The Cashmere Bulldogs will be well represented this weekend at the 1A State Tennis Tournament, as six athletes prepare to compete Friday and Saturday at the Yakima Tennis Club.
Cashmere qualified four entries for the state tournament following a strong performance at last weekend’s district championships, highlighted by multiple league award winners and district champions.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs is sophomore Albin Eskew, who enters the boys singles bracket after capturing the district championship last weekend. Eskew has enjoyed a standout season and was recently named the SCAC Boys Player of the Year.
On the girls side, senior Freya Dronen returns to the state tournament for the second consecutive season. Dronen, who earned SCAC Girls Player of the Year honors this spring, will compete in girls singles as she looks to finish her high school career with a strong postseason run.
Cashmere will also be represented in girls doubles by seniors Hazel Schade and Lucy Ray. The duo enters state with momentum after winning the district championship last weekend and will look to continue their strong play against the state’s top competition.
In boys doubles, seniors Quentin Christensen and Wyatt Nelson qualified for state after earning a third-place finish at the district tournament. The experienced pair will aim to make a deep run in the bracket during the two-day event.
Play begins Friday at the Yakima Tennis Club and concludes Saturday with championship matches.
