State Power Cashmere Makes Statement in SCAC Opening Night

The Cashmere Bulldogs boys wrestling team, currently ranked No. 2 in the state, opened SCAC league action in dominant fashion Thursday night in Connell, rolling through their first three conference opponents.

Cashmere went a perfect 3-0 on the night, showcasing its depth and power on the mat. The Bulldogs began the evening with a commanding 78-0 shutout of the College Place Hawks, followed by a 69-3 dismantling of the Kiona-Benton Bears. Cashmere capped off the night with a convincing 64-18 victory over the Connell Eagles.

With the sweep, the Bulldogs are now 3-0 in league duals. Each SCAC opponent will be wrestled once this season, with the regular-season league title on the line.

In the shutout win over College Place, Cashmere was flawless in contested matches. Marshall Pell (132), Kaiden Huber (138), Kolton Weeks (144), Andrew Ratliff (157), Jance Novak (165), Zennon Cortes (175), Jacoby Tait (190), Grey Jacobson (215), and Ulysses Betancourt (285) all recorded pins. All nine matches wrestled on the mat ended in falls for the Bulldogs, who also collected four wins by forfeit.

Against Kiona-Benton, Cashmere continued its dominance with four pins from Marshall Pell (132), Zennon Cortes (175), Jacoby Tait (190), and Grey Jacobson (215). Tony Rodriguez (106) earned a technical fall, while Andrew Ratliff (157) secured a major decision. The Bulldogs also benefited from six forfeits in the dual.

Cashmere closed the night with a strong performance against Connell, pinning seven Eagles. Fall victories were recorded by Tony Rodriguez (106), Kaiden Huber (138), Andrew Ratliff (157), Jance Novak (165), Jacoby Tait (190), Grey Jacobson (215), and Ulysses Betancourt (285). Mack Pell (126) and Marshall Pell (132) added technical fall wins to round out the scoring.

Following their impressive SCAC-opening performance at Connell High School, the Bulldogs will hit the road tonight, traveling to Kent to compete in the Gut Check Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
