The Cashmere Bulldogs girls wrestling squad delivered a historic performance at Mat Classic XXXVII this weekend at the Tacoma Dome, finishing 10th in the state — the highest finish in program history.
It was a milestone weekend for the Lady Bulldogs, who qualified a school-record nine wrestlers for the state tournament and produced two podium finishers while totaling 80 team points. The top-10 finish marked a significant leap forward after finishing 18th in state last season.
Black leads the way with third-place finish
Junior Tori Black paced the Bulldogs with a third-place finish at 120 pounds, continuing her strong run as a two-time state placer. Black went 4–1 during the tournament, highlighted by a first-round pin in the third-place match to secure her spot on the podium.
Alvarado reaches podium in freshman debut
Freshman Abril Alvarado also earned a spot on the podium, finishing sixth at 285 pounds. Alvarado won three matches during the tournament and contributed 15 team points in an impressive first appearance at the state meet.
Strong performances add to team total
Freshman Taylor Van Winkle (155) had a standout debut season, winning four matches at state and scoring 11 team points, just missing a podium finish.
Senior Rylee Snodgrass closed out her Bulldog career with an excellent showing at 145 pounds. Snodgrass won three matches — all by pin — and earned 10 team points. She finished her senior season with 32 victories, narrowly missing the podium.
Junior Haile James (135) added two tournament wins and nine team points, while senior Sara Andrade (140) picked up a Saturday victory worth six team points.
Junior Sydney Mazur (170) also recorded a win on Saturday with a first-round pin and capped her season with an impressive 42 victories.
Valuable state experience
Also representing Cashmere on the state stage were Vansee Wheeler (115) and Ruby Edwards (130), helping the Bulldogs field their largest state tournament group in school history.
With record participation, multiple podium finishes, and a top-10 team result, the Bulldogs capped off the most successful season in program history.
