The Cashmere Bulldogs track and field teams turned in another strong performance Tuesday at Zillah High School, closing out the regular season with impressive results in SCAC competition.
The Cashmere boys continued their dominant run, defeating Wahluke, Zillah, and Naches Valley to finish the regular season undefeated in league duals at 8-0. The girls squad also had a strong showing, earning wins over Wahluke and Zillah while coming up just short against Naches Valley to finish 7-1 in league meets.
With the regular season complete, both teams now turn their attention to the SCAC Championship meet set for Saturday, May 9 in College Place, where league titles will be decided.
The Bulldogs boys were powered by standout sprint performances from Caleb Dillin, who won both the 100 meters (11.54, personal best) and 200 meters (23.27, personal best). Teammate Ty Cockrum added a second-place finish in the 100 (11.56), while Isaac Zavala captured the 400-meter title in a season-best 53.05, followed by Jackson Binger in second (54.52).
Distance runner Rylan Reiber claimed the 1600-meter victory in a personal-best 4:46.33. Cashmere’s relay teams also excelled, with the 4×100 squad of Cockrum, Isaiah Black, Dillin, and Zavala taking first in 44.52 (personal best), and the 4×400 team of Cockrum, Edison Server, Zavala, and Braylon Rubio posting a season-best 3:39.68.
In the field events, Joseph Acton led the way with wins in both the shot put (42-9) and discus (143-11). Zane Pace added a first-place finish in the pole vault (11-6), while Kaleb Thayer placed second in the javelin (139-4). Jackson Binger also contributed a runner-up finish in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 18-7.5.
On the girls side, several Bulldogs delivered standout efforts. Mackenzie Van Bogart won the 800 meters in a personal-best 5:15.57, while Taylor Kunz claimed first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.93) and added a win in the shot put (33-4). Kunz also placed second in the long jump with a personal-best 17-11.25, breaking her own school record.
Cashmere’s relay teams were dominant, sweeping both the 4×100 and 4×200. The 4×100 team of Avril Guerrero, Jayce West, Brynne Patrick, and Kunz won in 50.95, while the 4×200 squad of Kiana Baty, Calene Bray, Guerrero, and Patrick took first in 1:49.39.
Individually, Brynne Patrick placed second in the 100 meters (12.77), and Kiana Baty earned second in the 200 (27.41, personal best). Allie Neff added a second-place finish in the 3200 (12:52.06, personal best). In the field events, Quinn Pace won the pole vault (7-6), and Taylor Van Winkle cleared 4-8 to finish second in the high jump.
With momentum on both sides, the Bulldogs will look to carry their regular-season success into the SCAC Championships as they compete for league titles.
