Cashmere turned Senior Night into a statement victory Friday night, overwhelming the Wahluke Warriors 62-0 to extend its winning streak to six games and record its third consecutive shutout. The Bulldogs dominated in all three phases of the game, improving to 7-1 on the season.
Currently ranked No. 2 in the state by the Washington State Football Coaches Association, Cashmere wasted little time taking control. After honoring its seniors before kickoff, the Bulldogs erupted for 48 points in the opening quarter, setting the stage for another lopsided victory.
Junior quarterback Mac Carlson connected with junior Ethan Bessonette for a 25-yard touchdown pass on Cashmere’s opening possession. Just two minutes later, Carlson found junior Brett Rubio for a 15-yard touchdown strike to extend the lead.
The Bulldogs’ special teams got in on the action on Wahluke’s next possession. Junior Cole McKenna blocked a Warriors punt, and senior Colton Stendera recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown, giving Cashmere a 20-0 advantage with 5:40 remaining in the first quarter.
Cashmere continued to pile on the points. After forcing another Wahluke punt, Bessonette fielded the kick and handed the ball to senior Braylon Rubio on a reverse. Rubio raced 44 yards for a touchdown, adding another explosive play to the Bulldogs’ already dominant start.
The defense struck just 15 seconds later. Stendera intercepted a Wahluke pass and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown, marking his second trip to the end zone in a matter of moments.
Carlson and the Bulldogs’ passing attack weren’t finished. The junior quarterback connected with senior Kaiden Ruiz for a 25-yard touchdown, with Ruiz making an acrobatic grab while managing to keep a foot inbounds as he dove for the ball.
As time expired in the opening quarter, Carlson delivered his fourth touchdown pass of the night, finding Brett Rubio on a deep 40-yard strike. The score capped a remarkable first quarter and sent Cashmere into the second period with a commanding 48-0 lead.
With the outcome well in hand, both teams agreed to play the remainder of the contest with a running clock. Cashmere turned to its second- and third-unit players, providing valuable game experience for the Bulldogs’ younger athletes while maintaining control of the game.
The Bulldogs added one more touchdown before halftime when sophomore Connor Diaz broke loose for a 24-yard scoring run, pushing the lead to 55-0.
The second half moved quickly under the running clock, but Cashmere found the end zone once more in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Callen Pipkin capped the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run, completing the 62-0 shutout.
Carlson put together an efficient performance in limited action, completing 6 of 9 passes for 125 yards and four touchdowns. Brett Rubio led the receiving corps with two catches for 55 yards and two scores, while Bessonette hauled in two passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. Ruiz added the 25-yard touchdown reception, and senior tight end David Odenrider caught one pass for 10 yards.
Sophomore running back Jayce McMahon made an immediate impact on the Bulldogs’ opening play from scrimmage, breaking off a 35-yard run on his only carry of the night.
Freshman quarterback Remy Martin took over for Carlson early in the second quarter and completed 5 of 7 passes for 57 yards. Martin connected twice with freshman Ryder Carlson for 31 yards and also completed passes to Cooper Green and Pipkin.
Cashmere continued to showcase its depth in the running game during the second half. Pipkin led the Bulldogs with 12 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown, while Diaz finished with two carries for 19 yards and a score.
While the offense and special teams provided plenty of fireworks, the Bulldogs’ defense once again delivered an outstanding performance. Cashmere intercepted five Wahluke passes, with Stendera, Jackson Binger, Braylon Rubio, Ruiz and Pipkin each recording an interception.
Senior Milo Ahrens led the Bulldogs with five tackles, while junior linebacker Jacoby Tait contributed four. Senior captains Ulysses Betancourt and Stendera added three tackles apiece as Cashmere continued its impressive defensive run.
The shutout marked the Bulldogs’ third in a row and their sixth consecutive victory, highlighting the consistency and balance that have fueled their successful season.
