The postseason spotlight shines bright in Cashmere on Tuesday night as the Cashmere Bulldogs boys and girls basketball teams host pivotal loser-out contests in the District 5 Tournament at Ron Doane Gymnasium.
With seasons on the line, both Bulldog squads will look to defend their home court and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Girls Tip Off the Night
The Cashmere girls (13-9) open the doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. against the Naches Valley Rangers (12-10).
Cashmere has had the upper hand in the season series, defeating the Rangers twice. The most recent meeting came on January 27 in Naches Valley, where the Bulldogs escaped with a narrow 25-23 victory in a defensive battle.
With both teams evenly matched, Tuesday’s matchup figures to be another tightly contested game. A third win over the Rangers would send Cashmere on to a district playoff game Thursday (Feb. 19) and secure a spot in Saturday’s (Feb. 21) winner-to-state crossover game.
Boys Close the Night
The Cashmere boys (15-8) will follow at 7:00 p.m., taking on the Wapato Wolves (13-10).
The two teams split their regular season meetings. Cashmere claimed the most recent matchup on January 31 at home, earning a convincing 70-51 victory over Wapato. The Bulldogs will look to replicate that performance with their season on the line.
Like the girls game, the boys contest is a loser-out matchup. The winner advances to a district playoff game Thursday and will also qualify for a winner-to-state crossover game on Saturday.
What’s at Stake
Tuesday’s winners are guaranteed:
A District 5 playoff game on Thursday (Feb. 19)
A winner-to-state crossover game on Saturday (Feb. 21)
For the losers, the season comes to an end.
