The Cashmere Bulldogs boys soccer team continued its dominant run on Tuesday night, winning its 11th consecutive match and recording a fourth straight shutout with a 1-0 victory over the Highland Scotties in their final home match of the regular season.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 13-1-1 overall and 10-1 in SCAC play, holding sole possession of first place in the conference with one match remaining. Cashmere has already secured a top-two finish in the SCAC, guaranteeing a home playoff match next Tuesday.
Tuesday’s contest was another tightly contested league battle. Cashmere nearly struck in the opening minute when senior Ethan Theiss created a strong scoring chance, but his shot sailed just wide.
After a back-and-forth stretch of play, the breakthrough came in the 18th minute. Sophomore Tommy Batanoiu delivered on a corner kick opportunity, finding the back of the net for what would stand as the game’s only goal.
The second half featured more evenly matched play, with both teams battling for control. Senior Alejandro Serna Rojas had a chance to extend the lead but narrowly missed high.
Defensively, the Bulldogs were outstanding once again. Senior goalkeeper Ranique Allen recorded the clean sheet, making several key saves to preserve the shutout. The back line, led by Cooper Hauck, Ian McFadden, Alex Batanoiu, and JJ Herrera, played a strong, organized match to keep Highland off the scoreboard.
It was a complete team effort on Senior Night, with contributions across the field. Batanoiu stood out with his game-winning goal and strong play in the midfield.
Cashmere will now turn its attention to Friday night, when the Bulldogs travel to Wapato for their final regular season match. With a win, Cashmere can clinch the SCAC title and secure the top seed heading into next week’s District 5 Tournament.
