The Cashmere Bulldogs boys and girls track and field teams wrapped up an outstanding weekend at the WIAA 1A State Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima, earning multiple state medals and podium finishes while helping both teams secure top-10 finishes in the final standings.
When the final event concluded, the Cashmere girls finished sixth in the state team standings, while the Bulldog boys placed tenth overall.
One of the highlights of the day came in the boys 4×100-meter relay, where the team of senior Ty Cockrum, sophomore Caleb Dillin, senior Isaiah Black, and senior Isaac Zavala sprinted to a runner-up finish with a time of 43.34 seconds to earn second place in the state.
The Cashmere girls 4×100 relay team also reached the podium, placing third with a time of 50.38 seconds. The relay team consisted of senior Avril Guerrero, freshman Kiana Baty, junior Brynne Patrick, and junior Taylor Kunz.
Kunz continued her impressive state meet by placing third in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.38 seconds. Teammate Amelia Flick also qualified for the finals and earned a state medal by finishing sixth in 16.12 seconds.
Patrick turned in one of the top performances of her career in the girls 200-meter dash, running a personal-record time of 25.49 seconds to place fourth in the state.
Junior Mackenzie Van Bogart added another medal to her collection after earning a third-place finish in the 1,600 meters on Friday. On Saturday, she returned to place fifth in the girls 800 meters with a time of 2:18.83.
Freshman Kiana Baty delivered a personal-record performance in the girls 300-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 46.22 seconds to finish sixth overall.
In the field events, senior Joseph Acton placed 10th in the boys shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 5.25 inches.
The Bulldogs closed out the meet with another strong relay performance in the boys 4×400 relay. The quartet of Ty Cockrum, Jackson Binger, Calen Dillin, and Isaac Zavala placed fourth in the state with a time of 3:27.40.
The weekend proved to be a successful state championship performance for Cashmere, as the Bulldogs consistently scored points and collected medals across a wide variety of events.
