The Cashmere Bulldogs boys soccer team closed out the regular season Friday night with a hard-fought 2-1 overtime loss to the Wapato Wolves in SCAC play. Despite the setback, Cashmere accomplished its primary goal—claiming the SCAC regular season title and earning the No. 1 seed in the upcoming District 5 tournament.
The Bulldogs finish league play at 10-2 and post an impressive 13-2-1 overall record. Royal and Connell also finished with 10-2 marks in SCAC action, but Cashmere’s head-to-head victories over both teams secured the top spot in the standings.
Friday’s match in Wapato was a competitive, back-and-forth battle from start to finish. Cashmere generated several quality scoring chances in the first half but was unable to find the back of the net.
The Bulldogs broke through in the 71st minute when Ivan Gonzalez-Hurtado found the goal to give Cashmere a 1-0 advantage. Wapato responded late in regulation, equalizing in the 78th minute to send the match into overtime.
Just moments later, senior goalkeeper Ranique Allen came up with a clutch penalty kick save in the 79th minute, preserving the tie and giving the Bulldogs a chance in extra time.
In the first overtime period, the Wolves capitalized on a free kick opportunity, converting the golden goal to secure the 2-1 victory.
Despite the loss, Cashmere showed resilience and strong team play throughout the match, capping off a successful regular season with a league championship.

The Bulldogs will open District 5 tournament play on Tuesday, May 5, hosting the Granger Spartans at 6:00 p.m. in Cashmere. The first round of the 16-team tournament is loser-out, adding urgency to every match. Cashmere defeated Granger 6-1 earlier this season and will look to carry that momentum into postseason play.
