The Cashmere Bulldogs girls golf team delivered a strong performance on Tuesday, earning multiple postseason berths while finishing near the top of the team standings at the SCAC postseason qualifier held at Desert Aire Golf Course in Mattawa.
Facing off against all conference opponents with District Tournament spots on the line, the Bulldogs rose to the occasion. The top 13 golfers in the field of 28 advanced to next week’s district competition, and Cashmere placed three athletes inside that cutoff.
As a team, the Bulldogs secured a second-place finish with a score of 454, trailing only College Place, which won the event with a 404. Naches Valley rounded out the top three with a 456, just two strokes behind Cashmere.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was freshman Carly Boyd, who turned in an impressive round of 98 to finish second overall. Boyd’s performance not only paced the team but also stamped her as one of the top contenders heading into the District Tournament, scheduled for Wednesday, May 13 at Legacy Resort at Frenchman Hills in Othello.
Cashmere also saw senior Alyssa Soria and freshman Maya Cohen punch their tickets to districts. Soria carded a 112 to place 12th overall, while Cohen followed closely with a 115, finishing 13th and claiming the final qualifying spot.
Junior Teagan Kerns contributed to the Bulldogs’ team success as the fourth scorer, finishing 17th overall with a round of 129.
With three individual qualifiers and a strong runner-up team finish, the Bulldogs head into next week’s district competition with momentum and confidence.
