The Cashmere Bulldogs baseball team continued its strong start to the season on Thursday afternoon, earning a 5-0 non-league road victory in Cle Elum. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 8-1 overall and remain ranked No. 3 in the latest Varsity WA 1A state poll.
Sophomore right-hander Ethan Bessonette delivered a standout performance in his first start of the season. After serving as Cashmere’s primary reliever early in the year, Bessonette made the most of his opportunity, tossing a complete game shutout. He was efficient and in control throughout, needing just 78 pitches while allowing only five hits. He struck out five batters and did not issue a walk.
The Bulldogs provided all the support Bessonette would need with a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings, before adding an insurance run in the seventh.
At the plate, Jake Peterson led the way, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Sophomore catcher Jacoby Tait also had a strong day, finishing 2-for-4 and scoring a run. Rylan Hatmaker, Levi Strutzel, and Jacoby Yousey each contributed with a hit and an RBI as Cashmere’s offense stayed productive throughout the game.
Next Up: The Bulldogs return home on Friday afternoon to host the Meridian Trojans in another non-league matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
