Grey Jacobson – Junior – Boys Wrestling
Junior Grey Jacobson delivered a dominant performance at the district tournament, capturing the 190-pound championship on Saturday and earning his return trip to the state tournament.
Jacobson was unstoppable on his way to the title, pinning every opponent he faced — including a first-round fall in the 190-pound championship match. His commanding performance highlighted both his technical skill and competitive focus at a crucial point in the season.
After spending much of the year wrestling up at 215 pounds to strengthen the Bulldogs’ lineup — often giving up as much as 25 pounds — Jacobson shifted back down to 190 for the postseason. The move has clearly paid off.
Now, he will be one of 13 Cashmere Bulldogs boys wrestlers competing at the state tournament next weekend. Jacobson placed fifth at state last season and will be looking to climb even higher on the podium this year.
Head Coach Rich Wheeler praised both his performance and team-first mindset.
“Grey exemplifies the meaning of team in wrestling,” Wheeler said. “He always said yes when he was called upon to help the team, sacrificing what was best for his record by wrestling up a weight class and giving up 25 pounds. We are at that time of the season where we focus on individuals, and Grey showed his prowess in the district tournament — and he is not messing around.”
With momentum on his side and postseason focus locked in, Jacobson heads to state wrestling his best at exactly the right time.
Sara Andrade – Senior – Girls Wrestling
Senior Sara Andrade punched her ticket to the state tournament with a gritty sixth-place finish at 140 pounds at last Thursday’s district tournament at Omak High School.
Andrade secured three of her tournament victories by fall, battling her way into the fifth/sixth place match to clinch her spot at state. She now advances to the Tacoma Dome next weekend as one of nine CHS girls wrestlers competing on the sport’s biggest stage.
Despite battling through injury this season, Andrade has compiled 18 wins and continues to show resilience when it matters most.
Head Coach Beau Van Winkle commended her determination and leadership.
“Fighting through an injury, she came back with some very impressive matches,” Van Winkle said. “She showed promise and grit making her way into the fifth/sixth place match to advance to the state tournament. Sara has been a great teammate in the wrestling room all season, helping to advance other wrestlers on our team.”
With her toughness, experience, and team-first mentality, Andrade is set to represent CHS with pride at the state tournament.
