CHS Girls Wrestlers Place 10th at Carlos Villa Memorial Tournament

The Cashmere Bulldogs girls wrestling team traveled to Royal City on Friday to compete in the Carlos Villa Memorial Tournament at Royal High School. The highly competitive event featured 22 schools, and Cashmere finished with 49.5 team points to place 10th overall.

The Bulldogs had 10 wrestlers compete on the day and were led by junior Sydney Mazur at 170 pounds. Mazur put together an impressive performance, winning five matches to place third overall in her weight class. She recorded four wins by pin and added a technical fall, continuing a strong season in which she now holds a 19-4 record.

Freshman Taylor Van Winkle also had a strong showing at 155 pounds, placing fourth overall. Van Winkle won three matches on the day, including two by pin, and improved her season record to 13-8.

At 235 pounds, freshman Abril Alvarado turned in a solid day on the mat, winning three matches all by pin. Alvarado now has eight wins on the season. Junior Ruby Edwards added to the team score at 125 pounds with two victories during the tournament.

Cashmere will be back in action next Saturday, January 10, when the Bulldogs compete at the Connell Invitational.
