Cashmere Girls Wrestling Qualifies School-Record Nine for Tacoma Dome

The Cashmere Bulldogs girls wrestling team delivered a historic performance at the District 5 tournament on Thursday, qualifying a school-record nine wrestlers for the 2026 1A state wrestling tournament, which will be held next week at the Tacoma Dome.

Competing against 29 schools at the District 5 girls wrestling tournament in Omak, the Bulldogs turned in an impressive all-around showing. With the top 10 wrestlers in each weight class earning state berths, Cashmere racked up 225 team points to place seventh overall.

Leading the way was junior Tori Black, who went 4-1 and placed third at 120 pounds. Black, a returning state medal hopeful, will look to bring home hardware for the second straight season.

Also reaching the semifinals were Sydney Mazur, who placed fourth at 170 pounds with four wins, and freshman Taylor Van Winkle, who finished fourth at 155 pounds.

Freshman Abril Alvarado earned fifth place at 235 pounds, highlighted by two first-round pins. Junior Haile James also secured a return trip to state with a fifth-place finish at 135 pounds, winning two tight decisions by a single point.

Senior Sara Andrade took sixth at 140 pounds, winning three of her matches by fall, while senior Rylee Snodgrass placed sixth at 145 pounds with three victories, including two hard-fought three-round decisions.

Additional state qualifiers included Ruby Edwards, who finished eighth at 130 pounds, and Vansee Wheeler, who placed 10th at 115 pounds after winning two matches.

Freshman Sadie Lindsay just missed qualifying but earned alternate status with an 11th-place finish at 155 pounds.

With a record-setting nine qualifiers and strong momentum from districts, the Bulldogs will now turn their focus to the state tournament, where they will open competition next Friday in Tacoma.
