Cashmere Basketball Sweeps Wahluke in SCAC Action

The Cashmere Bulldogs boys and girls basketball teams both picked up conference victories on Saturday, defending home court at Ron Doane Gymnasium with wins over the Wahluke Warriors.

The CHS girls set the tone early with a dominant 47–11 victory, while the Bulldog boys closed the night with a hard-fought 66–49 win. With the sweep, the Cashmere girls improved to 7–2 on the season and the boys moved to 5–4 overall.

Boys Basketball

The Cashmere boys earned a crucial SCAC home win against a tough Wahluke squad that entered the game with five wins on the season. The Warriors came out firing from long range, jumping out to an early 8–0 lead and knocking down four three-pointers in the opening quarter. Cashmere responded with strong energy and defense, trimming the deficit to just two points (17–15) by the end of the first quarter.

The Bulldog defense tightened up in the second quarter, holding Wahluke to 10 points while Cashmere poured in 17 to take a 32–27 lead into halftime. Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter, but Cashmere took control in the final frame, outscoring the Warriors 23–11 to pull away for the victory.

Sophomore Mac Carlson led all scorers with 23 points while also grabbing a game-high nine rebounds and dishing out a team-high five assists. Senior Tobie Larson delivered an outstanding defensive performance, blocking five shots to go along with 12 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Senior Tom McDevitt added 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Junior Colton Stendera chipped in nine points, four assists, and two steals, including a clutch 5-of-6 effort from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Jackson Binger contributed seven points and four assists, while sophomore Jack Baker added three points and three assists.

The Bulldogs will face a tough road test on Tuesday when they travel to Wapato to take on the Wolves, who are 7–2 on the season and currently ranked No. 8 in the state.

Girls Basketball

The Cashmere girls dominated from start to finish against Wahluke, using a suffocating defensive effort to shut out the Warriors in the first half and build a 21–0 halftime lead. The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure after intermission, cruising to the 47–11 conference win.

Junior Addie Talley recorded another double-double, finishing with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and five steals. Freshman Addi Lyons had an impressive all-around performance with 10 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Senior Alyssa Soria contributed six points, three blocks, two steals, and two assists, while senior Ella Kenoyer added five points, four rebounds, and three steals.

Junior Gwen Ledesma filled the stat sheet with three points, a team-high four assists, four steals, and six rebounds. Sophomore Juliana Boyd added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The CHS girls will also face a challenging road matchup on Tuesday when they travel to Wapato to take on the 7–1 Wolves.
