Bulldog Swimmers Compete at District 5/6 Meet

The Cashmere Bulldogs girls swim team made a strong showing at the District 5/6 1A/2A Swim Meet held Friday and Saturday (Nov. 7–8) at Gibb Pool on the campus of Washington State University. Sending just five athletes, the Bulldogs finished seventh overall with 94 team points, earning recognition as the top-scoring 1A school in the competition.

Pullman, Ellensburg, and Clarkston claimed the top three team spots at the two-day event, but Cashmere’s small squad proved its depth and determination in multiple races.

Senior Sophee Mott led the Bulldogs with a standout performance in the 100-yard backstroke, placing fifth overall with a time of 1:09.69. Mott earned her spot in Saturday’s finals after qualifying sixth in the preliminaries.

Both of Cashmere’s relay teams also contributed valuable points. The 200-yard medley relay team of Mott, Jordyn Joseph, Haile James, and Eliana Thomas finished seventh with a time of 2:20.77. The same quartet also swam to a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 2:06.35 in the final.

In individual events, Eliana Thomas turned in strong distance swims, placing 10th in the 500 freestyle (6:45.83) and 15th in the 200 freestyle (2:34.38). Haile James earned 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:29.92) and 16th in the 50 freestyle (30.21).

Izzy Thomas placed 18th in the 100 freestyle (1:13.55) during preliminary heats, while Jordyn Joseph finished 24th in the 50 freestyle (34.50) and 25th in the 100 breaststroke (1:51.75).

Next up, Mott will represent Cashmere as the team’s lone qualifier for the WIAA 1A State Meet. She punched her ticket earlier in the week by capturing the District 1A diving title, scoring an impressive 201.15 points in the 11-dive competition.
