Athlete of the Week: David Odenrider (Junior) – Football, TE/DE
Junior tight end and defensive end David Odenrider made a major impact in the Bulldogs’ dominant 59-0 win over Naches Valley on Thursday. Odenrider recorded four tackles, including three tackles for loss, and forced a fumble to help lead a defensive shutout.
On the season, Odenrider has compiled 13 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, and has been a steady contributor on offense with 11 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Head Coach Bryan Bremer praised Odenrider’s all-around contributions:
“David is one of five student-athletes who start on both sides of the ball and he’s a big-time contributor on special teams, as well. David is as blue-collar as they come. On defense, he consistently does his job and spills the ball back into our interior players. On offense, he’s a relentless, physical blocker who always provides a reliable pass-catching target. Beyond his play, David is a worker and is dedicated to his craft. He’s pushed through numerous nagging injuries this year and always gives his best effort when called upon.”
Odenrider’s toughness, consistency, and work ethic have made him a key part of the Bulldogs’ success on both sides of the ball.
Athlete of the Week: Taylor Kunz (Junior) – Volleyball, MB/OH
Junior middle blocker and outside hitter Taylor Kunz helped propel the Bulldogs to three wins last week, including a strong performance at the District Tournament that secured the team’s second consecutive trip to the 1A State Tournament.
Kunz was nearly flawless from the service line, going 30-for-31 on the week and a perfect 23-for-23 in district tournament play. She was equally dominant offensively, hitting 36-for-38 overall and 23-for-24 during the tournament, while tallying 17 kills and 29 digs.
Head Coach Katie Broadbent highlighted Kunz’s versatility and leadership:
“Taylor is undoubtedly the most athletic player on the court. She understands that great defense leads to her teammates making great plays and terminating the ball. This year she played both a six-rotation middle hitter and outside hitter position. She’s a key player on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. Beyond the court, she’s our rock, making sure her teammates have everything they need to succeed.”
Kunz’s consistency, leadership, and all-around play continue to set the tone for the Bulldogs as they head into the state tournament.
